One of the many warmly funny songs on Not Naptime is "98.8", about
a child who is trying to make his case for staying home from school (he is certain
he will be sick until 3 o'clock). In another, he wants a "n-n-n-n-nightlight"...just
in case ("it's everybody's right"). "Brontosaurus Got a Sweet Tooth" is yet
another song that will make everyone smile as listeners learn that the brontosaurus'
sweet tooth in question is for him! "Billy the Bully" is a story about
two bullies, Billy and Margaret, who pushed and teased the other kids until
the "smallest girl in the smallest grade" handled the problem quite expertly.
Another cute track shares the sheer tragedy of having to take a bath
after "Three Days" have passed without one. Roberts is just as effective at
turning out soft and sweet songs as he is with the funny ones. Take for example
the final track, "Last Night the Moon Was Full", a song of simple appreciation
delivered with an unmistakable sincerity that comes through on all of his songs.
This recording, like his Yellow Bus,
is easy on the ears and appropriate for any time of day.
