This fantastic and fun collection of jazzy family
songs from around the world is sure to delight kids and adults alike. According
to the liner notes, swing reached the height of popularity during the Great
Depression, and its no surprise. The music's carefree, upbeat spirit were likely
to serve as a refreshing release from day-to-day problems. Putumayo
Presents Swing Around the World features family-friendly songs from
multi-cultural sources. Kids will adore "Mumbles" (Oscar Peterson with Clark
Terry) with its scat-singing and jazzy piano riffs. "Fotoromanza" is
American swing with an Italian twist, and Africa is represented in "I Van Enkulu".
Perhaps the most musically interesting song of the collection is the last song,
"Minor Swing: To Django" by Children of the Revolution, a world fusion band
based in the U.S. that blends a variety of musical styles together delightfully.
The liner notes include information about the
swing musical genre as well as notes about each of the recording's 12 tracks.
